Social Responsibility

The health of the whole & the individual are inseparable.

Participating in community is invaluable to me. When I began Wildflower Medicine, I knew from the start that healing cannot stop at our own bodies. We heal together — across families, across communities, across oceans.

That's why I've built giving back into the DNA of this business. Not as an afterthought, but as a foundational principle that guides everything we do.

Organizations We Proudly Support

Each year, our charitable contributions go directly to these three organizations doing life-saving, on-the-ground work in Ghana, West Africa.

UCEFA

Family Foundation

United Charities Endowment Fund of America

UCEFA is Clare's family's foundation, and the one closest to her heart. Founded by the Rev. Canon Douglas Edwards in 2000, UCEFA operates directly on the ground in Ghana to design, drill, and install sustainable clean water wells in remote villages — providing safe drinking water to communities that had none.

Clean water is health. In villages without it, waterborne illness is a leading cause of infant and child mortality. By funding well construction and tapping into existing government water lines, UCEFA has transformed entire communities — reducing disease, enabling farming, and freeing women and children from hours-long daily water collection treks.

Challenging Heights

Child Rescue & Rehab

Winneba, Ghana — Founded 2005

Founded by James Kofi Annan — himself a survivor of child trafficking who was enslaved in the Lake Volta fishing industry at age six — Challenging Heights is one of Ghana's most respected child protection organizations. They conduct rescue operations in partnership with the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Navy, and the Department of Social Welfare.

An estimated 20,000 children have been trapped in forced labor on Lake Volta, hauling fishing nets, diving in dangerous waters, and working in conditions no child should ever face. Challenging Heights rescues these children and provides them with medical care, trauma counseling, and education at their Rehabilitation Center — one of the largest of its kind in Ghana.

Their work was featured in the Emmy Award-winning documentary The Rescue List, which tells the intimate story of two boys rescued from forced labor and their journey toward healing.

Abolish Slavery Now

Awareness & Funding

Ventura, California — Incorporated 2016

Abolish Slavery Now serves as a critical international bridge between donors in the United States and the on-the-ground rescue operations in Ghana. Based in Ventura, California, this nonprofit raises awareness about modern-day slavery and channels funding directly to organizations like Challenging Heights for rescue missions, rehabilitation, and survivor reintegration.

They have helped fund and facilitate the rescue of dozens of children from forced labor on Lake Volta, working alongside the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Navy, and the Department of Social Welfare. Their mission: prosecute traffickers, free their victims, and build rehabilitation pathways so no child is re-enslaved.

Why This Matters

The Scale of the Crisis

50M+

people worldwide live in conditions of modern slavery (ILO, 2024)

20K

children estimated trapped in forced labor on Lake Volta, Ghana alone

780M

people globally lack access to clean, safe drinking water

1,000+

children die daily from diseases caused by contaminated water

These are not abstract statistics — they represent mothers, children, and families. When you support Wildflower Medicine through courses, coaching, or meal services, you are directly contributing to the rescue of trafficked children and the installation of clean water infrastructure that will serve communities for generations.

A Personal Calling

Why Clare Gives

"I've been involved with my family's charity, UCEFA, since I was a little girl. Growing up, I watched my family organize, fundraise, and travel to Ghana to physically drill wells and bring clean water to villages that had never had it. That shaped my understanding of what it means to serve."

"When I built Wildflower Medicine, I wanted every mama who invested in her health through my courses, coaching, or freezer meals to know that a portion of that investment was flowing outward — protecting children, providing clean water, and supporting communities half a world away."

"I believe the health of the individual and the health of the community are inseparable. Nourishing your family IS an act of global healing. And every purchase you make here directly supports that mission."
